Christy Carpenter, Director
Christy Carpenter’s business career has involved several complementary fields highly relevant to ManyOne Networks, including marketing roles in the launch of early Internet services (Prodigy}, market and international development roles in several communications and media enterprises, and board roles with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and with local Public Broadcasting Service affiliates.
Christy Carpenter is currently Vice President of The Museum of Television & Radio, a non-profit organization launched in 1976 to collect and preserve television and radio programs and advertisements and to make them available to the public, and Executive Director of the Museum’s Media Center which convenes top-level executives, journalists, and creative talent from the converging industries of media and technology to discuss critical issues.
Christy also provides strategic counsel and business planning services on projects involving media, communications, and Internet adoption to a variety of nonprofit organizations and media start-up companies, including the United Way of America, The Benton Foundation (a Washington, DC-based communications policy organization) and Oasis Television, Inc. (a video-on-demand company). She also headed a communications and marketing consultancy representing a variety of clients including General Motors (EV-1), mytvshop.com, Fleishman-Hillard, Edelman Worldwide, Trio Communications, Wente Vineyards, Kendall-Jackson Vineyards, Ward Television and others.
She was appointed to the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting under the Clinton Administration in 1998, where she served as vice chair until the end of 2000, and has since served on the board of KCET, the largest public television station in Southern California. CPB funds 1000+ public radio and television stations across the nation and is a leader in public broadcasting’s transition from analog to digital delivery of educational, cultural and public affairs programming services to the American people.
Christy managed market development for merchandising and consumer marketing at Prodigy, the first PC-based online service designed for mass market. She has also held senior marketing positions and international development positions for various enterprises in media, advertising and cable television including Telaction Corporation (a subsidiary of JCPenney), Hill & Knowlton, and Warner Communications (one of the first providers of interactive, cable-based home shopping and television service). She was also Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Wine Institute.
Earlier in her career, Christy worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce and on Capital Hill, and was a clerk at the U.S. Supreme Court. She received her law degree from American University in Washington D.C. and her B.A. from Brown University.
Paul Irwin, Director
Paul Irwin is the President and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection organization. Mr. Irwin is also President of the Center for Respect of Life and Environment Humane Society International, EarthVoice, Renew America, and the Center for Earth Concerns of Costa Rica. He is Vice President of the National Association for Humane and Environmental Education and serves on the boards of directors of the American Bible Society, Meadowcreek, the Renewable Natural Resources Center, and the Wilhelm Schole. Mr. Irwin also served as a chaplain with Project Hope in Brazil. His educational credentials include a Doctor of Letters Degree from Rio Grande College, Master Degrees from Boston University, Andover Newton Theology School, and the Massachusetts Mental Health Center.
David Bradford, J.D., M.B.A., Director
David Bradford is a seasoned, high-tech executive with over 20 years of operational and legal experience in the computer industry. As Senior Vice-President and General Counsel of Novell, Inc. for over 14 years Mr. Bradford led Novell from start-up through a series of acquisitions, public offerings and business development activities which led to its place as a multi-billion dollar corporation. More recently, Mr. Bradford has engaged in a series of fund-raising and business development efforts for a variety of companies. He was one of the original investors in Found, Inc. Mr. Bradford’s involvement in the computer industry from the earliest days of the PC led to his being featured on the PBS Special “The History of the Internet.” He has also been a featured spokesman on CNN. His leadership in the field of protecting intellectual property rights gave rise to his being elected Chairman of the Business Software Alliance, the world’s leading trade association for business software companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, Lotus, IBM and Novell. Additionally, he was a founding Board member for the Utah Information Technologies Association (UITA) and the Intermountain Chapter of the American Corporate Counsel Association (ACCA).
In 2001, Mr. Bradford was appointed Chairman of the Advisory Board for Wasatch Ventures, one of the leading VC Funds in the Intermountain West. He also serves on the Board or Advisory Board for the following technology companies: Found, Inc., I-Link Telecommunications, Xlon Technologies, WOW Digital TV, Saffire Development, WebMiles, Pervasive Software, Global Trade Solutions/Readi-Cash, MyComputer.com, and ManyOne Networks. He was recently reappointed by the Governor of the State of Utah to serve as a Trustee of Utah Valley State College.
In 1997, Mr. Bradford was honored as the “Alumnus of the Year” for the J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University. Mr. Bradford has a Law Degree from Brigham Young University, a Masters in Business Administration from Pepperdine University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Brigham Young University.
Robert Richards, Director
Bob Richard’s business career has given him extensive strategic and operational experience ranging from large-scale telecom corporations to the rollout of new consumer products.
Bob Richards is president of Clarus Transphase Scientific, Inc., the privately held technology development company he co-founded. He is co-inventor of the QLink, the product which is pioneering the scientific field of measuring the energetics of human bodies. In less than a decade, Bob took the Qlink from a new and unknown product based on a new technology to a visible and well-known, nationally distributed consumer product.
His business background includes mergers and acquisitions, strategic consulting, marketing consulting, and operations management. He was on the team that led to the creation of Sprint, was director of finance and strategy for Sprint’s $600 million diversified businesses portfolio, and was president of Sprint’s electronic financial information subsidiary. He was president of United Information Services, Inc. (UIS), which was bought by Accent. He has consulted with multiple companies.
Bob was also a documentary film producer and director. His film Slowly the Singing Began was awarded first place for educational films at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and a Bronze Medal at the New York Film Festival. His film Junction City was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities prize. He photographed for New York Magazine as well as the Peace Corps and the World Health Organization in Zaire. He was awarded a documentary photography grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
A founding member of Ken Wilber’s Integral Institute, Bob serves as Executive Vice President and as head of the Integral Business branch. He serves on the Advisory Board for the Chopra Foundation, headed by Deepak Chopra. He is on the Advisory Board of the Executive Education program at the University of Notre Dame.
He has been a featured speaker for the Young Presidents Organization in Asia, the Conference on World Affairs, and the Esalen Institute’s Center for Theory and Research.
Bob holds an MBA from UCLA, and a BA from the University of Kansas, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
