Where on Earth do you want to go today? You will be able to access the Digital Earth through the Digital Universe and fly anywhere on earth directly. Plan a vacation by looking at the terrain, the bodies of water nearby, even the location of that cabin that claims “an ocean view.”

The Digital Earth functions similarly to other satellite mapping tools becoming available today. However, unlike those tools, this Digital Earth will grow into a much more compelling entity — the Digital Universe.

Explore the Digital Universe Intuitively

The Digital Universe will be a network of online web portals that will categorize knowledge and organize information using rich media authoring tools. These web portals, such as the current Showcase Portals, will be developed primarily through the volunteer efforts of a worldwide network of stewards, who are individual experts and educators, or organizations with an educational and public outreach mission.

The Digital Universe web portals will be linked through an intuitive, seamless portal finder called The Universe Navigator.

Visualize Places, Historical Trends, and Future Predictions

Stewards of individual web portals will use a host of tools to help convey their mission and invite collaboration. For example, The Arctic Portal overlays data showing the impact of global warming on the melting of the polar ice cap and predictions for how this could effect countries bordering the Arctic, from temperature change, to animal migration, to economic impact.

Watch the Digital Universe Grow

Support is growing rapidly among potential stewards for web portals, so more and more portals will be coming online all the time. Eventually, the Digital Universe will also contain multiple 3D Digital Assets: a 3D Human Body, 3D Solar System, and much, much, more.
