The Digital Universe Is Tommorrow’s Web

Imagine an Internet experience that lets you fly over an accurate, photorealistic virtual Earth to:

  • View the effects of the Asian tsunami — before and after images of the area hit by the tidal wave and future images that track the rebuilding efforts.
  • Fly to Mars to explore the Valles Marineris canyon system, over 2500 miles long and up to 6 miles deep.
  • Visit San Francisco to plan your next vacation or business trip, switching between street maps, satellite views, and pointers to local attractions.

Imagine flying through the human body to:

  • Learn how your heart works.
  • Explore the brain.
  • See a blood cell re-oxygenate as it travels through the capillaries in the lungs.

Every stop in your voyage will be accompanied by the web’s best information, relevant to your travels.

This will be the Digital Universe, powered by ManyOne.

Innovative Steward and Public Contribution Program

Subject matter experts and educators, as part of the Digital Universe’s Steward Program, will work to bring online the most objective and authoritative information on topics of vital human interest.

These experts and educators will also steward public participation in the process, helping to build knowledge through public collaboration and contribution.

In addition, the contribution process is open to the public through an open source collaboration platform.

High Quality, Trusted Open Content

Unlike unmoderated open platforms, public content will also be guided by expert Stewards, who contribute to the authorized area of the Digital Universe. High quality of content will be promoted by asking contributors to use their real names. Guidance will be in place to prevent disruption of the useful work of contributors.

In the future, the Digital Universe Foundation will warmly welcome public contributors dedicated to the growth of quality content online, and the community will be launched with a charter and a clear vision of project governance.
